The Practice Space showcases work of 2023 RIBA Royal Gold Medal recipient Prof. Dr. Yasmeen Lari

This display celebrates this year's RIBA Royal Gold medallist, Yasmeen Lari. Pakistan’s first female architect, Lari is Co-Founder and CEO of the Heritage Foundation of Pakistan. She is an author, architectural historian, conservationist, philanthropist, and humanitarian.

RIBA is organising a celebratory evening event and dinner for the architecture community and beyond to recognize the achievements of Yasmeen Lari. As Pakistan's first female architect, Lari’s work in heritage conservation, humanitarian architecture, and zero carbon footprint concepts is to be honored at this event.

2023 Royal Gold Medal in conversation: Yasmeen Lari and Part W

Yasmeen Lari will be joined by Alisha Morenike Fisher of Migrants Bureau on behalf of Part W for this Royal Gold Medal in conversation event. From her advocation for low carbon, traditional building materials and methods to her work with displaced and marginalised communities, Lari will discuss the many ways architecture can be used as a tool for bettering life, especially the lives of women.

FCBS Studios and INTBAU hosted an evening of conversation with 2023 RIBA Gold Medallist, Yasmeen Lari.

The event was chaired by Harriet Wennberg (INTBAU) and Geoff Rich (FCB Studios). Yasmeen delivered a passionate presentation about her work, her shift to humanitarian architecture to tackle climate change, poverty and social and economic inequalities. The event was attended by professionals of all ages working in the sector, and was sold out. The crowd showed a keen interest in her work, and after the event celebrated Yasmeen’s achievement ahead of the official award ceremony for the RIBA Gold Medal on 12 June.

VIENNA

On 1 June 2023, Prof. Dr. Yasmeen Lari and Az W-Director Angelika Fitz gave a guided tour of the exhibition "Yasmeen Lari. Architecture for the Future".

Pakistan's first female architect, Lari designed iconic modernist buildings before founding a zero-carbon self-build movement for climate refugees and the landless. Through her life's work, the exhibition shows how the relationship between architecture and the future is changing.

The Architekturzentrum Wien is currently showing the world's first monographic exhibition of Pakistani architect Yasmeen Lari, who was awarded this year's RIBA Royal Gold Medal, on display till16th August 2023.
